Alexa Matlack

Assistant Teaching Professor

I am an alumnus of the UW School Psychology Ed. S/Ph.D. program.  I teach and supervise graduate students in several practicum courses including counseling, school-based SEL and academic intervention, and clinical supervision at the doctoral level. I support and mentor our pre-doctoral interns in securing and completing doctoral level psychology internships around the country (APPIC/APA or CDSPP) each year to round out their doctoral training. I will be taking EdS advisees each year.

All my professional experience and current work is driven by the teaching and implementation of culturally responsive and equitable educational and mental health practices.

I am the supporting faculty member for the Programs student-led Equity Caucus, which meets every quarter to bring our School Psych community together to discuss issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. EC groups discuss applicable practices as future practitioners to dismantle upheld white supremacy principles in all educational spaces.

I completed an APPIC/APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship and, following, a postdoctoral fellowship at the Boys Town Center for Behavioral Health in Omaha, Nebraska. My clinical interests are focused on culturally responsive and evidence-based treatment of a wide range of severe emotional (trauma, depression, anxiety, OCD) and behavioral challenges (ADHD, ODD) in children and adolescents. I have specialized training in trauma-informed care and treatment, and I am a certified Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) therapist.

During my summers, I support the children and families who attend and the staff that work for APEX Summer Camp through the University of Washington Autism Center.
